Programs; Awareness; Share the Road HOME

BikeTexas launched an ongoing, extensive educational campaign on how to best Share the Road. The most effective cycling occurs when the bicycle is operated like a motor vehicle, sharing the same rights and responsibilities as the operators of other vehicles. Educating motor vehicle drivers and bicyclists increases safety exponentially. BikeTexas has marketed this message to the public through several venues: tables at multiple festivals and rodeos across the state, letters to the Editor, public service announcements, and bumper stickers proclaiming, “Give Bikes the Right.” The most powerful campaign has been the “Share the Road Y'all” specialty license plates. Not only have the plates brought in an estimated $40,000 for bicycle education in one year alone, but they have also provided matching leverage for $400,000 in federal grants and emphasized, to motorists and cyclists alike, the importance of sharing the road.

Visit the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to order your Texas Share the Road Y'all Official License Plate for your vehicle, or download an application here and mail it in. $22.00 for every plate sold goes to bicycle and motorist safety education programs. Also available are the Share the Road Ya'll Souvenir License Plates. $10.00 of each Souvenir plate goes to BikeTexas Education Programs as well. Just visit the BikeTexas Store to place your order.
