Filibuster threat and phone calls fill lawmaker's time

But by the next morning, Ellis and Keel had called a truce, joining each other on an early morning "bipartisan" bike ride.
Republican lawmakers Sen. Jon Lindsay of Houston, Sen. Tommy Williams of The Woodlands, and Rep. Larry Taylor of Friendswood all joined the ride, sponsored by the Texas Bicycle Coalition . That made Ellis the only Democrat.
"We wanted to make this a respite from politics," said Robin Stallings, executive director of the bicycle coalition .
