Lance Thanks Austin with Free Celebration |

Lance Armstrong celebrated his final Tour de France victory with a free Lance Thanks Austin concert at Austin's Auditorium Shores on Sunday, October 2, featuring Sheryl Crow.
Seven-time Tour de France champion and Austin resident Lance Armstrong thanked his hometown with a free musical performance by multi-Grammy winning artist Sheryl Crow. Armstrong also welcomed riders from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope, a cross-country bicycle ride that Armstrong participates in to raise awareness for clinical trials.
“It has been an honor for me to call Austin home,” said Armstrong, who moved to the Texas capital in 1990. “It is always nice to see the folks of Austin over in France at the Tour. It is my pleasure to say thanks to my fellow residents for their continued support.”
October 2 marked the ninth anniversary of Armstrong’s cancer diagnosis. The cyclist returned to the bike in 1998 and cemented his comeback by winning the 1999 Tour de France. Armstrong retired in July 2005 after his record-setting seventh-straight Tour de France victory.
Crow’s latest CD, Wildflower, was released on September 27. The free performance was her first public show before embarking on her U.S. tour in October. Armstrong and Crow underwrote the cost of the event.
