Lubbock’s Drug Free Back to School Bash was held August 13 at Mackenzie Park where hundreds of kids and their parents showed up to obtain many of their school supplies before the first day of class.
In addition to clowns, face painting, carnival games, music, dancing, and food, kids also visited the BikeTexas booth where they received information on bicycle safety, riding lessons, the importance of wearing a helmet, how to wear a helmet and the Safe Routes to Schools Program.
Everyone seemed to love “Betsy”, the bicycling robot, who came all the way down from Amarillo. In addition to riding the obstacle course, kids were treated to an exhibition by trick riders on mountain bikes from the Caprock Multisport Club. Thanks go to Steve Stovall and his sons for helping make the day such a success and to Allene Mayfield for her help, especially with the younger kids who were just learning to ride bikes. |
