Missing Person Ride
Thursday, 11 August 2005

Don Albietz, a Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer, cycling event coordinator and serious competitor, was struck by a semi truck while riding his bicycle around Lubbock in July. Don sustained serious injuries to his spinal cord, spent several days in a coma, and died two weeks later.

Witnesses say that the semi truck that hit Don appeared to hit him on purpose. The driver stopped for a moment and then drove away leaving Don on the side of the road, and has since been arrested. A memorial ride will be held in tribute.

The Missing Person Ride will leave from 7000 Zenith Ave in Lubbock at 9:00am, Saturday, August 13. The route is 23 miles and follows the course Don had been riding when the crash occurred.

BikeTexas Local Outreach Coordinators will be on hand to represent Texas Bicycle Coalition. There is no fee for participation and no support vehicles or rest stops.
