Georgetown Expands Trail Network |
|
The City of Georgetown is developing a network of trails to showcase
the natural beauty of the San Gabriel River. The City Parks Department
maintains over 3.5 miles of trail along the North & South Forks of
the San Gabriel near the downtown area. On August 20, these trails will
be ceremoniously connected to the trails maintained by the Army Corps
of Engineers that have long drawn cyclists out to Lake Georgetown.
The new trail has been funded by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,
Lower Colorado River Authority, and the City of Georgetown. The new
trail project has long been proposed as an important asset to the
Georgetown cycling community. Cyclists can now travel from the downtown
area out to popular recreation areas on Lake Georgetown along a
dedicated cycling facility.
The Goodwater Trail around Lake Georgetown is more than 16 miles
long. By connecting this trail to the City trails, Georgetown hopes to
attract more cycling events and encourage greater participation among
its citizens. A map of the Georgetown network is available, as well as a Williamson County Bike Trails map.
The Grand Opening Ceremony & Tour for the new trail segment will be held
Saturday, August 20 at 10:00am under the Park Pavilion behind the
Wendy's Restaurant located at 1102 Rivery Blvd.
