The BikeTexas Share the Road Y’all Souvenir License Plates, featuring Lance Armstrong, the first person to ever be honored on a Texas plate, are now available. Just in time too, as Lance aims to take home an unprecedented 7th consecutive Tour de France win this month.
The Tour will be buzzing, and Robin Stallings, ( TBC Executive Director), and his wife Gayle Cummins Stallings (Past TBC Executive Director), will be hot on the Tour's heels, and attracting a bit of their own attention. They will be diligently following the Tour de France participants in an RV decorated with a 3' x 8' graphic wrap of the license plate on both sides of the vehicle. Along with their personal belongings and bikes, they will be carrying the BikeTexas Share the Road Y'all message in the form of 3000 of the souvenir plates to share with international audiences and Lance fans.
Believing that the souvenir plates will be the perfect way to honor Lance, and Texas, plus provide a means to help advance bicycle access, safety, and education for Texas youth, Robin and Gayle have given up any hope of relaxing during the Tour. We expect our dedicated, dynamic duo will be worn and weary upon their return. They won't be on a vacation, but indeed working hard everyday to sell the plates to provide financial support for BikeTexas Safety and Education Programs. So, if your at, or watching the Tour this month, keep your eyes peeled for them, and wish them luck as their success is a success for all cycling Texans.
The Souvenir Plates, while made identical to the Official State "Share the Road Y'all" Specialty License Plates, are not for use on cars, and should not be confused with the Official Plates available for your cars through the Texas Department of Transportation. $10.00 of every Souvenir Plate sold and $22.00 of every Official Plate sold (upon vehicle registration), goes to motorist and cyclist safety and education programs.
Last month Governor Perry signed the Souvenir License Plate Bill - HB 1735 into law. Author of the bill was State Representative Mike Krusee R-Round Rock, Chairman of the Texas Legislature House Transportation Committee. Please be sure to write to these gentlemen and thank them for their support of and for cycling.
