Community Successes
Thank You Volunteers
Volunteers have an enormous impact on Texas Bicycle Coalition. From those who attended Cyclists in Suits BikeTexas Lobby Day, to those who are working with BikeTexas Local Outreach Coordinators, our volunteers ensure that Texas Bicycle Coalition can effectively carry its mission to advance bicycle access, safety and education for all Texans. More than 25 people assisted Texas Bicycle Coalition in managing the checkpoints at the three Urban Assault Series races this spring. Volunteers from the San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin regions made certain that cyclists obeyed the traffic rules while racing between checkpoints to complete the various challenges. The Urban Assault Series contributed several thousand dollars to the BikeTexas Share the Road program, advancing this vital message. Thank you all for your time and support.

Annual Meeting
Texas Bicycle Coalition will again hold its Annual Meeting in Wichita Falls during Hotter N’ Hell Hundred weekend, August 24-28. All members are invited to meet Texas Bicycle Coalition staff and board members. The meeting will cover the successes of the 79th Texas Legislature and 108th Congress, the status of the BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Program, and the outlook for the next year.

New board members will be introduced, and exciting news about the direction of Texas Bicycle Coalition will be unveiled. We hope to meet you all there. You are our core constituents, and Texas Bicycle Coalition seeks to develop a more familiar relationship with all members. Hope to see you there.

Don't know what to do with those old bike parts rusting away in the garage? Bikes Across Borders (BAB) can help. Based at the Rhizome Collective, an East Austin-based community organizing and urban sustainability center, BAB uses donated bike tools to fix recycled bicycles for distribution to community groups in the U.S., Mexico, Central America and Cuba. Organization members have rescued at least 500 discarded bikes from a bleak landfill future, delivering them to poor people all over North America. This year, BAB is working to put together bike shipments to El Paso, Cuba, Chiapas, the Texas/Mexico border, and local Austin immigrant groups.
