Coalition Publishes First Annual Report

Texas Bicycle Coalition is pleased to announce it has published its inaugural annual report. The report provides members and community partners an update on the Coalition’s activities and program areas over the past year, October 2004 through September 2005. The annual report is available for download in the Coalition's Press Room.

 
Coalition Wraps Up Katrina BikeAid Project
Thank you to all of the generous donors and supporters that made the Katrina BikeAid project possible. Since hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast this fall, well over 1,000 bicycles have been collected and distributed in Texas to individuals that have been affected by the storms. This amazing feat was only possible through the coordinated efforts of several Texas organizations and businesses and hundreds of individual donors.

Amarillo Sets the Bar for Bike-Friendly Texas Cities

The City of Amarillo distributed an insert in its December utility bill educating the public about the new bike lanes in the city. Texas Bicycle Coalition worked with city staff by helping create the content and design for the bike lane insert. This is a great idea for other cities to consider as they strive to become more bike-friendly. View the bike-friendly information that Amarillo distributed to the public.


 

 
Coalition Member Receives REI Stewardship Award

Jeanne Patterson of Frisco, Texas was recently selected to receive the REI Stewardship Award, which is given to six recipients nationally. The Stewards of the Environment Award provides recognition to local environmental heroes across the country who have made an impact and inspired others.

In recognition of Jeanne’s contributions, REI presented Texas Bicycle Coalition with a $20,000 grant during a brief award ceremony, followed by a fun, social 10-mile bike ride, at the Plano REI on Saturday, December 10.

BikeTexas Katrina BikeAid Collecting Thousands of Bikes

The BikeTexas Katrina BikeAid project will hold a bicycle collection celebration on Saturday, November 19, from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm. at the Bicycle Sport Shop central location (517 S. Lamar) in Austin. Everyone who donates a working bike that day is invited to enjoy complimentary food, drink and entertainment. The goal is to collect one bicycle per minute – or 540 bicycles – on November 19.

One thousand bicycles have already been collected and distributed in Texas, but demand and need still remain high. Cash contributions are also critical to the success of this important mission.
