X-Bar Kids Kup Closes Spring 2009 TMBRA Season
Monday, 15 June 2009
Kids Kup - X-Bar Ranch An inch of rain was gratefully received the night before the May 16, 2009 Kids Kup at the X-Bar Shootout to finish out the final Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) Spring 2009 event for the Championship Point Series.

A spirited group of kids and parents, including mountain bike racing families, local area families and a batch of cousins from the X-Bar Ranch's Meador family, made for a great event. After youth racing expert Bill Payne held the kids' (and parents') rapt attention during the bike safety talk, the races began and every "Kids Kupper" left that afternoon with a finisher's medal.

Friday Afternoon Kids Kup in Junction Draws Excited Crowd
Monday, 15 June 2009
BikeTexas Kids Kup - Junction 2009 The first BikeTexas Kids Kup event by the lake of the South Llano River at Junction's City Park was held on late Friday afternoon, May 22, 2009.  It was immediately followed by the Pre-Ride Pasta Dinner held to fuel up Tour des Forts Bike Ride participants for the adult Century Ride Saturday morning. BikeTexas has been looking at opportunities to conduct more Kids Kup events, and the Tour des Forts organizers and the City of Junction were happy to oblige.

Kids and parents from Kimble and Menard Counties came to find out about Kids Kup. After registration and helmet fitting, BikeTexas Teacher Training Director Brenda Chuleewah introduced the kids to "the way of the egg." That's the egg drop demonstration used to show kids the importance of the wearing a helmet, and the kids' reaction to the demo indicated that it was a "smash!"

Report from a SuperCollege Professor

UT Permian Basin SuperCyclistWe had five teaching students in the preprofessional track go through the SuperCyclist training this spring. They then took their knowledge out to the Boys and Girls Club and taught four lessons to children there. We used the paint chalk sent by BikeTexas Teacher Training Manager Brenda Chuleewah to paint a "bicycle safety city" in the parking lot. My students taught the children the Seven Laws and the parts of a bicycle, before they were allowed to take turns riding through the "city". During that activity, the children who did not have a bicycle to ride either used the handlebars that we made, modeled after the ones Brenda sent us, or they served as sheriffs and deputies, passing out warnings and tickets to other children who violated any of the laws.

May 15 is Bike & Walk to School Day
Wednesday, 06 May 2009
Bike and Walk to School Day 2009 The third Friday of every May is Texas Bike and Walk to School Day. This is a great opportunity to encourage the children in your life to participate in a healthy and fun activity - biking or walking to school! These days children are too-often sedentary, which can affect their health and even how well they do in school.

Today's children biking or walking to school are tomorrow's fit, healthy cycling or jogging adults. So check out the resources and FAQ on our website and organize a Bike and Walk to School Day at your child's school!
